Once the hard drive is out we get the first glimpse of the battery.
It is soldered into the circuit board with two wires, red and black. It cannot be removed yet. The assembly is still too tight. The two wires run along the side wrapped in a soft paper case.
And there is also the very tiny hard drive LED.

Hi, congratulations for this great blog, it is easy to understand how to repair this unit.
I have a second hand 160GB 605 WiFi Archos, one day the hdd failed, maybe my little kid dropped the device, and now it is in recovery mode, but the command repair/format doesn't work and the sounds from the HDD inside, tell me the plates on the drive are damaged and there is no way to recover.
So I am investigating how to replace it, if there is a way to put a different disk (model/size) to recover my device.
Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.
