Back Cover Removal

By Anonymous - Posted on 16 November 2008

We start by removing the back cover.

Locate the screws that hold the back cover in place. There are 6 of them on some models and 8 on others.

The back cover rim is made of plastic and will come off easily after the screws are removed.

Brilliant instructions - thanks a million! Snipped off the old battery and thank God I didn't desolder the ends as I watched my last 5 millimetres of solder drop out of the dispenser. managed to splice the new battery on - and I guess if I have to fit a new one in future I'll do a proper job

Thanks for the Great Blog!!

Your guide gave me the confidence to tackle the battery replacement myself, with success. Little screws and big fingers made it a bit touch and go at times but now I can use the Archos on the move again.

Cheers

Many thanks for this article. Brilliant. Made a complex job easy for me.

I have enjoyed my Archos, but was pretty ticked when the battery craped out after 12 months. AND NO EASY WAY TO REPLACE. What a ridiculous design flaw. Does anyone know if the new series suffers this same fate.

Anyway - after finding this article and a quick trip to E-Bay, 35$ later, a week and a half of thumb twiddling and I'm back to having a device that can run without a plug. I'll drive this little baby as long as it lasts. HOWEVER, I'm going to return that iTouch I just bought, as it too has a "non replaceable" battery. And what the heck is it with Apple anyway. Everything I download by bit torrent is avi (TV shows, I don't do the movie thing) and to have to convert it via iTunes. It is just ridiculous. This was always my Archos strong point - download and play.

Now, I'm just waiting for the Nokia N810 to arrive in the mail (replaceable battery - yay!!!) and I'm set.

Thanks very much to the creator of this document. I'm a fairly handy guy, but likely would have broken something figuring this out. Thanks to your doc, my Archos is good as new with no broken plastics.
